See You In Our Dreams—A worm’s-eye view from the Readers Underground of a social dreaming experiment in progress
We mentioned in last month’s newsletter the ongoing in-depth reading groups performing and discussing Aurobindo’s Savitri and Synthesis of Yoga. Another intimate group has formed around Maía’s See You In Our Dreams, a book described as “a long, complex, slow exploration of the final paroxysms of a dystopic future before something starts to change.” Maía has woven a web of wisdom throughout the Cosmos Cooperative as seen through her poetry and threaded throughout conversations on the Infinite Conversations forum. Her graceful presence and poetic language prompted further collaboration, leading to this intimate reading group around her 2020 novel.
The dream already exists—What you are looking for is the entrance. ~ Ariadne 2050
The story, set in the 2050s, focuses on an underground community of poets, artists, scientists, and theater geeks (Bard-lovers) who share the weird experience of receiving cryptic messages in dreams from a figure they know as Ariadne. This more-than-human intelligence seems to be transmitted to them from the planet Jupiter—or so the dream goes. In the 2050s, water is a scarce commodity, while a techno-optimized corporatocracy rules over the carcass of humanity in the throes of Earth’s 6th great mass extinction. The See You in Our Dreams reading group began meeting in mid-July. For those familiar with our other Readers Underground groups and the Cosmos Café, we meet virtually, face-to-face. What makes these sessions quite unique is the use of audio-only. It may be perceived as a post-video production. These are not your standard fossilized land-line corded connections; we utilize this cold media to go into the cavernous depths, unearthing magnificent bones and vibrant gems. The members of Labyrinth, much like the characters in the novel, are an underground community of poets, artists, and scientists sharing dreams, reflections, and intimate memories. Combine this with the forum’s ‘textile’ threads and artwork, this humble tribe is knitting dreams into a web of realities.
For human survival, we need another mutation in the destiny of reality, compared to which the shift from pre-history to history, seems like child’s play. ~ Ariadne, via Raimon Panikkar
When the collective dreams of Earth’s inhabitants run dry, these Readers Underground sessions are necessary seances to revive the hidden souls within us. What is arising from the Underground . . . ? A remembering, an unearthing, a deepening; a new earth, a new culture, and a new Cosmos.
